Youth Development Worker Position Description:
Youth Development Workers needed for 21st Century Community Learning Centers. This position will work approximately 3 hours per day after the regular school day when school is in session.
Staff will work as a member of a team to develop age-appropriate activities related to reading, writing, and math. Staff will facilitate these activities and engage youth in them, addressing behavior issues using constructive and specific feedback. May develop clubs or activities based on personal interests or skills that develop skills or aptitudes for students. Responsible for identifying potential risk factors in a program environment and taking measures to reduce those risks. Youth Development Workers must be able to assist students with assigned homework. Staff will participate in various enrichment activities and assist students during these activities.
Youth Development Workers serve as positive role models for youth. Will demonstrate respect for diversity, serving as a role model for the principles of inclusion and tolerance. An understanding of and ability to apply basic child and adolescent development principles is essential. Must be able to develop positive relationships with youth. Must be able to participate in training related to positive youth development.
Candidates will demonstrate professionalism and an ability to involve and empower youth. Candidates will also have a strong interest in caring about, involving and working with families and communities. Prior experience working with youth strongly preferred.
