A Summer Experience Unlike Any Other…
Close your eyes and think about the words summer school. What comes to mind? I’m assuming that it isn’t a room full of children clapping, chanting, laughing and learning to fall in love with literacy. Well, it should be! Thousands of children across the country will be having just that kind of experience this summer as they participate in the Children's Defense Fund Freedom Schools® program. Proudly rooted in the American Civil Rights Movement and the courageous efforts of college-age youth (just like youJ), the CDF Freedom Schools program provides summer enrichment through a model curriculum that supports children and families around five essential components: high quality academic enrichment; parent and family involvement; social action and civic engagement; intergenerational servant leadership development; and nutrition, health and mental health.
We are currently in the process of accepting applications for Servant Leader positions to teach 1st-8th graders at Freedom School during the summer of 2010 through the Americorps VISTA service program.

Applications are due on February 12, 2010. A committee will then review all applications and select candidates to interview. Candidates will be notified of final decisions no later than February 15th.
